A Look at our System of Incarceration – October 9, 2021
Keynote Speaker:
Christine Montross, M.D. – Waiting for an Echo: The Madness of American Incarceration
A 2015 Guggenheim Fellow in Nonfiction, Dr. Christine Montross is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is a practicing inpatient psychiatrist and performs forensic psychiatric examinations. She completed medical school and residency training at Brown University, where she received the Isaac Ray Award in Psychiatry and the Martin B. Keller Outstanding Brown Psychiatry Resident Award.
Dr. Montross has been named a 2017-2018 Faculty Fellow at the Cogut Center for the Humanities, a 2010 MacColl Johnson Fellow in Poetry, and the winner of the 2009 Eugene and Marilyn Glick Emerging Indiana Authors Award. She has also had several poems published in literary journals, and her manuscriptEmbouchurewas a finalist for the National Poetry Series.

November 21, 2020: 4th Annual Corrections Ministry Conference – “Forgiving with Grace”
Join us on November 21st for a morning with Jeanne Bishop, author of Grace From the Rubble & Change of Heart, as she shares her story of forgiving. The event will be virtual this year and signups are encourage at the link below or at www.archindy.org/corrections. The morning will begin with a welcome and prayer by Msgr. Stumpf at 8:30. Speaker presentation will run from 9:00 -10:30 am with time for questions. With a short 15 minute break a pre-recorded panel discussion of prisoners with the prison will begin at 10:45.

November 16, 2019: 2019 Corrections Ministry Conference-The Face of Corrections Ministry
Who should attend? Clergy, lay volunteers, those in corrections professions, and anyone interested in learning more about Corrections Ministry.Parish teams especially encouraged to attend.
The day will begin with a welcome from Dcn. Marc Kellams, Coordinator of Corrections Ministry for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, followed by Msgr. William F. Stump, Vicar General of the Archdiocese, who will add his own words of welcome and a few comments. We will then pray together the Liturgy of the Hours. The day will include interactive concurrent breakout sessions, addressing the nuts and bolts issues of interest to corrections ministry volunteers. There will also be a panel discussion of former inmates on their experiences while incarcerated, and how ministry volunteers have affected their lives.
The Keynote Speaker will be Sr. Helen Prejean, CSJ, of Dead Man Walking fame, and leading advocate for the abolition of the death penalty. Sr. Helen writes, “The death penalty is one of the great moral issues facing our country, yet most people rarely think about it and very few of us take the time to delve deeply enough into this issue to be able to make an informed decision about it."She will review the Church’s evolving position on the death penalty, and will invite you to take that time, to learn, to explore and to reflect. Books written by Sr. Helen will be available for purchase.
No fee for the conference, but a free-will offering will be accepted. A complimentary lunch will be provided. Registration begins at 8:00 am with the program beginning promptly at 8:30 am.
