Full-time Coordinator of Youth Ministry

Saint Lawrence Catholic Church, located on the northeast side of Indianapolis, is seeking a full-time Coordinator of Youth Ministry. This pastoral staff member is responsible for recruiting and forming adult and high school volunteers as teams of missionary disciples who will carry out the formation initiatives of junior high and high school teens. Secondarily, the coordinator will develop and execute the programs for teens, with a focus on grades 7-12, in the context of small discipleship groups, and will oversee the formation of youths as disciples aiming to become saints. The coordinator will implement Christus Vivit and Renewing the Vision, using a philosophy very similar to the one presented in the book Forming Intentional Disciples by Sherry Waddell.

Essential Functions

  • Recruit and form adult volunteers, mentors, and other leaders as teams of missionary disciples capable and competent followers of Jesus Christ, focusing on high school youth ministry (grades 9-12) and on junior high youth ministry (grades 7-8).
  • Recruit and form high school leaders as a team of missionary disciples capable and competent in assisting with ministry initiatives.
  • In close collaboration with the volunteer leadership teams, form a curriculum of Christ-centered encounter and accompaniment and program plans for periodic junior high youth ministry (grades 7-8) and weekly high school (grades 9-12) youth ministry.
  • Implement an efficient system of recommendation letters to incentivize all youth to serve in the Parish as an essential inlay of their educational curriculum.
  • Empower leaders to show youths how to be armed just as firmly with the Gospel as with bullet points for their résumés (i.e. disciples who live in the world but are not of this world).
  • Participate as needed in Office of Evangelization and Youth Ministry meetings, events, and formation and contribute to the overall good of the evangelization of the parish.
  • Jointly oversee the Sacrament of Confirmation Preparation program with the Coordinator of Evangelization and Discipleship.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Evangelization and Catechesis and with other staff and volunteers to give a preferential option to young adults and to empower them at every turn.
  • Facilitate regular one-on-one mentoring sessions for the youth by their adult leaders and one-on-one interviews with the priests for the Confirmandi and the high school seniors.

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities

  • Pastoral leadership and team building
  • Content and curriculum development
  • Highly organized and capable of simultaneously managing multiple projects
  • Proficiency in writing/communications and public speaking and experience managing social media
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (and willing to learn Haitian Creole as needed)

Education, Training and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in theology, catechetics, or a related field
  • 3 years of experience in youth ministry or related field
